Review:
While this may be called “Original Formula,” it’s actually not. Neutrogena repackaged and renamed the real original formula (now sold as Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream Night) and slapped “Original Formula” on this version with SPF 15. The results are disappointing. Why? Because it lacks the UVA-protecting ingredients of titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, avobenzone, Mexoryl SX (ecamsule), or Tinosorb and is, therefore, not recommended. If this supplied better UVA protection, it would be a good way to combine daily sun protection with antioxidants and anti-aging ingredient retinol.

Here is the Allure Best of Beauty Review for Hall of Fame Winner – Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream SPF 15:

Neutrogena changed the face of beauty—and faces of women—in 1991 by discovering a way to stabilize retinol, a pure form of vitamin A known as much for its volatility as its line-smoothing prowess. “They combined the molecule with UV filters and several antioxidants to protect it from sunlight and air, and to keep it active,” says Hammer. Without such defenses, retinol will quickly degrade. Other cosmetic companies were also producing over-the-counter vitamin-A creams at the time—some even years before Neutrogena—but most relied on less effective forms of the ingredient because they didn’t break down as quickly. Neutrogena packed its retinol and stabilizing agents into a hydrating base and introduced it as Healthy Skin in 1997. Clinical studies showed the formula was capable of visibly improving sun damage, skin clarity, and pore size after just one week. “And over time, retinol can decrease fine lines and wrinkles, even out skin tone, fight acne, and increase collagen production,” says Jeannette Graf, assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.

WHAT IT IS:
An anti-aging cream with sunscreen for sun-damaged skin

WHAT IT DOES:
Increases cell turnover to lessen the appearance of fine lines and dark spots

KEY INGREDIENTS:
Retinol (exfoliates and stimulates collagen production); vitamins B5 and E (moisturize); ensulizole and octinoxate (sunscreen)

HOW IT FEELS/SMELLS/LOOKS:
The light, fragrance-free formula rubs in easily and tingles on contact.

WHY WE LIKE IT:
After about two months of use, it makes creases and spots significantly less noticeable. Plus, it has SPF 15, so it can pull double duty as a day cream.
