It wasn’t. When I switched to castile soap, like Dr. Bronners, to wash the cup, no more itching or irritation. The cup is way beyond 5 stars but I would not use anything but castile soap to wash it since it is worn internally just to be on the safe side. There are all kinds of chemicals in 99% of soaps/body washes.
