My Thoughts:
I *love* this palette. I think it is a fabulous and healthier alternative to the Urban Decay Naked palette for every day wear. The case is more durable than the Naked palette, and locks shut if you happen to need to take it with you. The new case design is black metal embossed with roses, which is a nice change from the former plastic case design. It is smaller than the Naked palette, containing 8 shades and a black eyeliner pencil. There are a few shades in this palette that are very similar to the Naked Palette: <3 is like Sidecar, Sunny is like Half Baked, Downtown is like Toasted, and Bookworm is like Smog. (See my review of the Urban Decay Naked Palette)
The shadows are very pigmented, long-lasting with great color payoff even without using a primer (but even better over a primer). The application is smooth and easy to blend, and does not fall out like most powder shadows tend to.
Though the Naked palette has a variety of textured shades, the Saint palette includes only one matte shade, caravaggio, one glittery shade, <3 (which is mostly sheer matte with very little glitter), and the rest are shimmers.
It is very easy to create a work appropriate look using this palette:
- use a matte neutral primer over the whole eye leave the primer bare on the browbone (using a clean fluff brush to blend the crease)
- or skip the primer above the lid and use a light dusting of <3 over the browbone
- use the tip of your brush to blend a thin line of heavens or enjoy the silence just beneath the brow and near the inner corner of the eye to create a highlight.
- cover the lid with downtown or sunny.
- define the crease with pray for me.
- use bookworm or caravaggio as a liner on the upper and lower lashlines (dry for a softer line or wet for a more defined line).
This palette is also ideal for creating any number of evening looks using more of the shimmer shades over primer and using the eyeliner and darker shades to create a smoky effect. While the Puro Amor eyeliner only gets a hazard score of 3 (see below) I would suggest not using it on the inner rims of your eyes due to the contamination concerns with hydrogenated cottonseed oil and tocopheryl acetate.
The active ingredients are described as:
