This review is from: Mindful Beauty Is In Your Hands: Natural Skin Care Tips and Recipes (Paperback) This book changed my life! I have always been thoughtful about cleaning products in my household, careful to select the least toxic cleaner that will do the job. But I never thought before to use sustainable products for the cleaning and care that I use more often and I’m even more likely to absorb– the products I use on my body. I learned that better self-care can be cheaper and more effective as well as better for you and the environment… I started using castile soap (Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint) on my hair with a apple cider vinegar rinse and left behind all those shampoos with Sodium Laureth Sulfate– and guess what: my hair was softer, wavier, and more manageable and FINALLY… no more dandruff! I never knew that “regular” and even “natural” shampoos were CAUSING the problem, and I certainly never expected the solution to be better and cheaper than all the off-the-shelf products I had tried over the years. The book is both empowering and informative at the same time, leaving out any toxic-scare-tactics employed by other works on the same topic. Instead the book employs a positive tone that looks at self care from a viewpoint like IPM in agriculture: no beauty and skin care tool is off-limits, but there’s enough information to allow you to choose the least harmful yet still-effective product. There are also several simple recipes that you can make yourself at home instead. The book also shares resources so readers can learn more about each of the beauty products they use– with a greater understanding of how the chemistry of skin care and how the human body works. |
