I wrote to the company and would like to share their reply. Hi there,Thanks for writing and sharing your honest feedback. The soap is lighter than it was before since now we use colorless but more effective vitamin E (tocopherols) and not dark brown rosemary, and the viscosity is a little different because of a higher olive oil content, but the soap is just as concentrated as it was before at 39% solid. Absolutely no dilution has occurred. You can determine this by pouring similar quantities of our older conventional and newer organic liquid soaps into separate cups, and observing that exactly the same amount of solid soap is left behind when the water evaporates.I know that the aroma of the soap is a little different, especially the peppermint. Peppermint crops are the most susceptible to climate, similar to how grapes can be distinguished by the environment in which they’re grown. When we switched to organic peppermint oil, we had to switch our source to India rather than Washington state. The former aroma was more spicy and the newer Indian peppermint oil has a mellower chocolatey smell. We still add the same amount to our soaps. All in all, the integrity of our soaps is higher than they have ever been. We have now converted all of our oils to organic oils, which means that we are supporting lots of sustainable farming and farm-worker health now. The cost to us has been tremendous, but we felt the earth was definitely worth it. Besides, this was an endeavor Dr. Bronner would definitely have supported if he were alive today.I hope these explanations have helped. Please let me know if I can be of further help. The reviews that say this smells like tar, I’m puzzled by. Anyone buying tea tree oil soap, one would think, is buying it because of its antiseptic properties, in which case, one would think that you would know that tea tree oil smells strongly. I dont understand why people would buy the tea tree oil soap expecting it to smell like flowers… thats just silly. I dont know about “tar” though. It smells like tea tree oil, which is sort of minty, strong smell, I dont find it unpleasant, myself. I like the smell of tea tree! Anyway, I bought this soap to be an antiseptic soap to wash my piercings and keep them clean and free of infection, and thats what this soap does. Its Gentile, cleansing, and it kills germs, what else do you need soap to do? This soap is very thin, but dont be fooled! a little goes a LONG way. I use a tiny drop to wash my hands, and a Qtip to wash my ears. It lathers a lot, and you dont need a ton of it. You could even dilute it if you wanted, but its so thin I chose not to. Good product, great price, arrived super early. Plus the weird religious cult writing all over the bottle makes for humorous bathroom reading 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful: My Favorite Soap!!!, August 10, 2005 By I LOVE this soap. Of course I love all of Dr. Bronner’s soaps, especially because they are all natural and biodegradeable etc… and they WORK GREAT!!! But this one is particularly good for my skin. The natural antiseptic, germicide, antibacterial, fungicide properties of Tea Tree oil have made my skin so much clearer since I have started using this soap regularly. It lathers really well just like all Dr. Bronner’s soaps, so you just need a very little bit. The only downside is that it’s not the best smelling of his soaps (if you don’t know what tea tree oil smells like I would try it in a small size first) but I don’t mind it. If you like the peppermint soap, I would definitely try this one too. |
