We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for shopping at VitaminLife.com Soap is made by saponifying a fat or oil with a strong alkali. A fat or oil is a triglyceride, which means that three fatty acids of various carbon lengths are attached to a glycerine backbone. The strong alkali is either sodium (for bars) or potassium (for liquids) hydroxide. The saponification process is a simple one-step reaction with no waste generated: the glycerine is split off from the fatty acids, and the fatty acids combine with the sodium or potassium to form soap, while the hydroxide forms water. The result is soap, glycerin and water (no alkali remains). Quality soap-making consists in great part in choosing the right proportions of the right oils with their different fatty acids. Most commercial soaps skimp on quality because of cost, and use lots of tallow from beef fat with a little bit of coconut or palm kernel oil. Our unsurpassed soaps use olive, hemp, and palm oils instead of tallow, and use three to four times more coconut oil than commercial soaps. Saponified coconut oil generates high-lather cleansing even in hard water because it has shorter-chain saturated fatty acids. Hemp, olive, and palm based soaps make a mild, smooth, creamy lather, because these oils contai n longer chain unsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Dr. Bronner’s makes a higher quality soap i

The peppermint has only recently been toned down; now I can put it on my nether regions and not tingle to the edge of wincing. If it’s too strong, just dilute it in the bottle; it’ll still do what it does best: clean! Yes folks, NOTHING will clean and refresh your skin like Bronner’s. Strips off all the dirt but leaves your natural oils. Pure castille soap with zero additives except for the essential oils. Makes you realize how much of a film the artificial soaps leave; dove and ivory are a joke next to Bronner’s. It also is THE soap for hard water areas; this stuff lathers when nothing else will. A gallon is an amazing deal, lasts forever and is about half the cost of buying the small bottles (Vitamin Shoppe has some excellent deals on many items of many sorts; check their site out). Bronner’s is also great for washing hair, cleaning counters, dishes, etc, and even brushing your teeth. Sometimes when I camp it’s the only thing I take for all of the above; Dr. B’s does it all. The only problem is it’s no good for telling your kids you’ll wash their mouths out with soap; it kind of tastes good! I also love the almond soap, maybe even more than this one. Lavender, eucalyptus, lemon, etc; all are good in their own way. Try ‘em all and find your favorite. You’ll never use another soap again. Bonuses include the most entertaining writing on any product label ever; old Dr. B was quite a philosopher and humanist, and his thoughts are special , and written in a unique style indeed. As well, his family gives away most of their profits to various charities, and his son, who now runs the company, is a wonderfully friendly man who will talk to you and tell you some great stories if you call the company. This is capitalism, and soap, at its finest. Long live the Bronners! 37 of 39 people found the following review helpful: Truly One of Best Products on Earth!, October 15, 2006 By Treehugging “Herbalist” (Southern CA) – See all my reviews This product is by far the best soap for bathing. I use it by putting just a small squirt onto a scrubby, which foams up into a massive amount of suds -I probably end up using more than I need with this method but it’s quick and convenient for me. You will notice after using this soap that you don’t need skin lotion anymore – you don’t suffer dryness, cracking etc. especially caused by mass-produced products full of chemicals. All of the different soap scents are wonderful and have a noticeable difference. Peppermint will truly make you feel much cooler, and is what I use during the summer. Eucalyptus makes you feel warmer and clears your sinuses and I like it during the winter. Lavendar is very soothing and relaxing; and rose induces a happy state of mind. Really! Also this product can be used for tons of other things around the house and is far superior to other products I’ve used. I always use it to do my laundry since you need so little (maybe 1/8 cup or even less) per load, and no matter how dirty the laundry is it comes out clean, soft, smelling fresh, and without causing any skin irritation from chemical detergents. It’s the absolute best for cleaning silks and cashmeres etc. You can clean anything with this stuff. I’ve also used it very dilute as a pest spray for my garden etc. Possibilities will occur to you as you experiment with it. The product is made by a very nice group of spiritual folks who are carrying on the philosophies of Dr. Bronner as printed on his labels, and they strictly adhere to green practices and ingredients. They’ve been making this for a very long time and hopefully will continue on forever! Definitely try any of the Dr. Bronner products, they are truly amazing. 25 of 26 people found the following review helpful: Many uses, October 20, 2006 By Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?) This is a great soap. I’m currently out and can’t buy any that’s why I’m just writing a review. You can water it down and it last a really long time. I use just a dab full strength with a scubing sponge and it really lathers. You can also use it as an ingredient for a natural cleaner (non commercial cleaner) and use it to clean around the kitchen, bathroom and house (outdoors too why chem up your pets, outdoor animals (not the pest), and garden. Just mix a little lemon juice, soap, and water and you can kill a lot of germs around the house naturally. Health tip – don’t walk around the bathroom barefoot you can pick up germs through your feet. House tip – ants can’t swim (they drown) when they are spayed with 1/10th soap and water. (types of ant’s have varying taste) You can however get rid of a lot of ant’s (maybe all) by feeding them corn starch. |
