I love mineral make up. It is wonderful because it looks great and does not feel like you’re wearing make up. This is my second bare minerals starter kit. I bought the second starter kit because I really like the bare minerals brushes and it is cheaper to buy the kit than the brushes individually. Bare minerals has changed what you receive in the start kit since I first purchased it. I think the old one was better. The first starter kit I purchased had: - Two shades of bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation (.06 oz/2g) in Light and fairly light - bareMinerals Mineral Veil(.06 oz/2g) - bareMinerals Warmth All-Over Face Color (.02 oz/.57g) - bareMinerals Glee All-Over Face Color (.02 oz/.57g) - Handi Buki Brush - Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush - Flawless Application Face Brush - How-to DVD.The new kit has: - TWO shades of bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation: Light & Golden Medium (Size: Medium) - Mineral Veil (Size: Medium) - Warmth All-Over Face Color (Size: Medium) - Full Flawless Face Brush - Flawless Application Face Brush - Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush - Prime Time - How-to DVD.The really differences between the two products: the old kit had a Handi Buki Brush when the new kit has Full Flawless Face Brush. I think the Handi buki brush is the better of the two brushes but both do a good job of applying the make up. The second major differences the old kit had small Warmth All-Over Face Color and Glee All-Over Face Color the new kit has a Medium Warmth All-Over Face Color. Again I think the older kit was better. Warmth is a bronzer that gives your skin a natural sun kissed glow. Glee is also a great product, it is a plum shade blush. It gives your skin a touch of natural color as if you have been exercising. Both of these products are great but you need to be careful not to use too much. Personally without Glee my face ends up looking pale, my face really needs a little bit of color beyond the foundation, warmth and mineral veil. Glee is my absolute favorite bare minerals product. Mineral veil is a great product that is a great finishing product. It gives your face an airbrushed look. What I do not like about bare minerals is how it sits on top of your pores and makes them look bigger. Unlike the commercials claim you do not look like you are not wearing make up in fact your look like you are wearing tons. It is a natural look but still a make up look. Frankly, there are better mineral foundations than bare minerals my favorite is E.L.F. (eyes lips & face). It has a great mineral foundation which is better than the bare minerals foundations and a fraction of the price. I like it better because it does not make your pores look bigger. E.L.F. also makes a product called mineral booster which is like mineral veil. My overall opinion is to buy the starter kit once to get the brushes because mineral make up needs special brushes. Use what come with it and switch to a different foundation and continue using Glee and Warmth. Mineral make up last longer if you apply a moisturizing before the make up. One trick I have learn to minimizing the appearance of pores under mineral make up is to use a acne moisturizing and let it dry before applying the make up. 38 of 40 people found the following review helpful: Good coverage, quick to put on, but not that light, February 6, 2007 By Let’s start by saying that in the past few years, since I’ve gotten more an more into natural living, I’ve started wearing less and less makeup. That said, I’m still a girly girl, so I’ve never left home without at least some mascara and a little bronzer. Unfortunately I’m one of those people whose skin mirrors their stress levels so I’m prone to a degree of breakout and blotchiness when I’m very stressed, don’t sleep enough, etc. This set is good for those days when I feel I need a bit more makeup: the foundation gives pretty good coverage (especially if you use the kabuki brush), Warmth gives the perfect glow on my cheeks and mineral veil is fab to achieve that finished look which I never felt I could achieve, no matter how much or how little makeup I put on and how long I spend doing it. Basically, with this set you can get a better job done in A LOT less time. However (and here’s why I gave it 4 stars and not 5) if you don’t like the feeling of makeup on your skin, you probably will be bothered by this, especially as soon as you put it on. I gets better after a few hours but when I’m done putting it on I always feel tempred to wash my face and take it all off again, because I still get that feeling of “help! my skin can’t breathe”. I think most people will be happy with this; as for those of us who are a bit more sensitive, we’ll have to keep looking, and save this for special occasions. Note: I haven’t used the lotion included in the package because I’m allergic to salicylic acid so I cannot review that product. 25 of 25 people found the following review helpful: Very interesting make-up, March 30, 2007 By eddyreddy (Minnesota) – See all my reviews first off the shipping was super FAST! on this was more like days not weeks. A very big plus for me as I sell on line daily so shipping to me is important. So 5 stars on the shipping! I have not worn make-up with any regularity for about 30 yrs. I tried it here and there and did not like the feeling or the look. I tried high end department store products to low end make-up from drug store. Nothing seemed right. I really tried this product on a whim. I had seen one of my customers one day who really looked nice and I told her. She said she went to a job interview,… and said she wore Bare Escentuals and loved it. She had ordered off of tv shopping show and was very happy with it. I thought why not, so I ordered it. It did take me a few days to get the hang of working the powder and the brushes. It does cover up the ruddy-red that comes with age. I am suprised that as the day wears on, my face feels the same as if I had no make up on. That is what I like, I do not look made up. It doesnt come off on the phone like other make-up tends to do. I still dont wear eye make up but I do use some of the Bare Esc. eye powder that is a dark grey under my eyebrows, just to open up my eyes some, as I wear glasses, too. I am happy with the color choices and will know more when summer comes. I do tan easily so it will be interesting to see summer results. Why make-up now after going for almost 30 yrs without? To blend or cover the reddness and to even out color without it being heavy or made up. I even keep my fingers off of my face with this on.I thought of sharing this with my daughter because I was so sure it wasnt going to work for me. But I kept it hidden from her and I will think of ordering her, her own set. So all in all, it seems to work for me. Like I said it took a few days to get the hang of mastering the powder and brushes. I have had it for about two weeks and I am not one who spends time in front of a mirror, so far I feel like I can get this product on without taking too much time. I just know that this is one make-up you cant put on in the car and drive at the same time, you need both hands, lol. |

As a makeup artist I have been doing makeup for weddings and special events for almost nine years now. A vow to my clients is that I will never put anything on their face that I have not tried myself. Therefore, when clients started asking about bare minerals and whether I would recommend it or not I felt obligated to try it out. When I try “new” products I put them through a volley of tests. The first test I put it through I call the “photograph” test. Some makeups have reflective agents in them that reflect bright likes such as the flash from a camera. While they look normal and well blended in normal lighting conditions they can look comically white in photographs were a flash is used. When doing makeup for weddings it is ESSENTIAL that the makeups I use DO NOT have reflective agents. I took a photograph of my natural skin in normal lighting, then used a flash. I put on the BM foundation, came back and took two more photographs: one in normal lighting with no flash, one with a flash. I’m pleased to announce that bare minerals DID pass the photograph test. My second test is the oil test. I have VERY oily skin and so do many of my clients. If it won’t last all day on my skin, how can I expect it to last all day on the skin of a laughing, hugging, drinking, dancing, partying, kissing bride. I was happy to announce that it DID last a BIT longer than other foundations I have used in the past but it did not last as long as I would have liked. Touch ups during the day are essential to all-day wear (or a very good oil-control powder). I really liked the way it looked and felt on my own skin but there are clients that I would NOT recommend it for. I have a very strict facial regiment that I go through to keep my skin healthy, clear and fresh. If my skin were not in the healthy shape that it is in because of my regiment I don’t believe bare minerals would be for me. A healthy regiment is a MUST for this or any makeup. If I get a client who has not taken care of her skin I will not use bare minerals. I will moisturize the face, cover the problem spots and use a different type of foundation. I MAY brush a little over the top to give them a matte finish but it will not be my principle cover up. Bare Minerals seems to be more about enhancing beautiful skin, not concealing troubled skin. If you would like to use this product and use it effectively you MUST do the following: 1. MOISTURIZE! Though I recommend this for ALL of my clients it is still essential for Bare Minerals. An expensive foundation, whether bare minerals, or any other brand for that matter, will not be able to give you the moisture your face needs. Find a good moisturizer. Moisturize in the morning and at night. 2. Allow your moisturizer to completely absorb into your skin before you apply Bare Minerals. Because Bare Minerals is a powder it clings to moisture wherever it finds it. If you have any lingering moisturizer on your face it will cling to it and leave you looking caked and pasty. I recommend waiting about five minutes after moisturizing before applying bare minerals. 3. WASH YOUR FACE! Though this product boasts that it is so pure you can sleep in it, that is hogwash. Anything you put on your face for an extended period of time that cannot be absorbed (such as a moisturizer) IS going to clog your pores. I don’t care how “pure” it is. Personally, I wash my makeup off with a gentle foaming cleanser and then I ex foliate with proactiv. I also use proactiv’s toner and repairing lotion when needed, and I ALWAYS moisturize. Because bare minerals is a powder and not a liquid I have found it is a little easier to wash off initially, but because it is a powder and has tiny particles that CAN clog pores, my toner is especially necessary to really get down deep and clean my pores.Healthy skin is essential to the success of any great look, but bare minerals is NOT a cure to skin problems as it boasts to be. The cure to skin problems is treatment to the best of it’s ability. If you have acne, use an acne wash or talk to a dermatologist. If you have dry skin, moisturize. If you have oily skin, moisturize as well (as many times the body produces MORE oil when you try to dry it out). If you have a rash or any other skin problem, talk to a dermatologist and treat the condition. Makeup is NOT a cure to skin issues, it is an enhancement to the beautiful skin beneath it. It is true that certain makeups can HELP your skin problems but do not look for makeups to cure your skin issues. If you abandon your skin regiment for a promise of healthy skin from a makeup, nine times out of ten you are going to find your skin problems coming back. For those who have switched to Bare minerals and seen dramatic improvement in their skin, that is wonderful. It is very… |
